From personal experience I know that the French academic system can seem rather intransparent and impenetrable from the outside. I have therefore listed some opportunities for young mathematicians to spend some time in France to pursue their research interests. Please see the links provided for more detailed information.

Fondation Sciences Mathematiques de Paris Postdoctoral Fellowship

For: holders of a doctorate in mathematics or computer science, obtained in France or a foreign country
Duration: one or two years
Finances: EUR 2500/month (net).

Marie Curie Career Integration Grant

For: PhD holders of any nationality who have not already spent more than 12 out of the past 36 months in France

Sophie Germain International Programme Postdoctoral Fellowship (Fondation Mathematiques Jacques Hadamard)

For: foreign doctoral students who will have completed their PhD by September 2011 and wish to work in a pure or applied mathematics lab at Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan or Universite Paris Sud 11 (Orsay)
Duration: one or two years
Finances: up to EUR 24,000/year.

Post-doctoral Position at Ecole Polytechnique for Foreign Nationals

For: recent PhD holders from academic partner institutions of Ecole Polytechnique
Duration: one year
Finances: support from Ecole Polytechnique is available on a competitive basis
